Considering the fact that I write a blog, which you are currently reading, in which I attempt to dissect or unpack various issues within or surrounding Christianity and the church, this post was a little challenging for me to consider.
I can’t help but think how hard we make this Christian life. We make everything so difficult about Christianity. We struggle with which church we attend, which Christian author we read, which Christian band we listen to, which devotional we purchase, do we believe Christians should live in poverty or live prosperous, should Christians drink or should they not drink, and the list goes on an on. Seriously, think about a topic. Somewhere in history Christians have wasted hours debating the topic you just thought about. When I think about Jesus and what He was about, I have a hard time believing He would have accepted the way we Christians use our time.
I think there are basics about Christianity that we should have down and the rest is simply gravy. Yet, most of us forget the basics and focus on the gravy. Have you ever eaten a bowl of gravy with nothing else? Neither have I but I can imagine it’s disgusting.
Maybe I’m off here. All I know is that I sat down to write a new blog tonight and I was exhausted. Exhausted from thinking about another issue that really doesn’t matter. The only issue I can see that truly matters is love. Love is everything. Without love we don’t have Jesus, without love we don’t have life. Love carries Gods provision, His blessings, His healing for our sickness, His salvation for our lives, His freedom from our bondage, etc. I just wonder what we would look like if all we focused on were love, pure Jesus love. Instead of leaving churches because we were offended we would stay, and through love, work out our issues with one another.
I’m also tired of more non-Christians asking me questions about these same non-issues. I receive more questions about tithing, creation, the book of revelation, and televangelists than I do about Love. That’s an issue. The ONLY question we should get from the world is “how do I experience that same love I see in you?”
Don’t worry; in a few days I’ll have another blog posted dissecting my struggles with these minor issues. For right now I will encourage everyone to think about love. Think about what sharing true love looks like. Picture true love being expressed in your life.
