I am not intending this post to be the final word on the subject of abortion. Abortion is a subject that deserves a lot of time and discussion to properly understand every detail and circumstance surrounding the issue.
Therefore, my goal with this post is not to convince the liberal to believe abortion is wrong nor to empower the conservative to picket the abortion clinic. Rather, this post is about gaining understanding that everyone has a destiny and we should become more aware of our place and role in history and how the things we do and do not, do matter. Love should be the main focus of everyone involved wit abortion.
"Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, of whom one was named Shiprah and the other Puah, When you act as midwives to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, she shall live. But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded, but let the male babies live. So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, Why have you done this thing and allowed the male children to live? The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; they are vigorous and quickly delivered; their babies are born before the midwife comes to them.” So God dealt well with the midwives and the people multiplied and became very strong. And because the midwives revered and feared God, He made them households [of their own]. Then Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son born [to the Hebrews] you shall cast into the river [Nile], but every daughter you shall allow to live." (Exodus 1:15-22 AMP)
Here we have two women that value their belief in God and their moral integrity more than their own lives. Choosing to deliberately disobey Pharaoh was a dangerous move. They could have been put to death, beaten, tortured, thrown into prison for the rest of their lives, or worse. Yet, these two women believed not following their God was far worse than anything Pharaoh could ever do to them.
This is an amazing story that should bring motivation and encouragement to everyone. These two women were destined to be at that place and at that time. Had these women not been where they were who knows if these innocent baby boys would have been murdered. We see two women walking in the calling and destiny placed on their lives. We see two women unwilling to compromise for anything or anyone. I can imagine these women stressing over what they were going to do. Staying up late each night, unable to sleep, worried about their future. Then, in a moment of clarity, they realized that not following God would be the worst possible decision they could make. At that moment they became energized, ready to go out and save the lives of these children. They would probably have a feeling that this is what they were created for.
We as individuals, and especially as Christians, need to realize that we are destined for greatness. We have a calling on our lives and we have a destiny that we must fulfill. If we are unaware of the calling on our lives, we should be actively seeking God for the calling He has placed on our lives. We need to be aware of situations around us along with always asking the Holy Spirit “where do You want me?” We could be missing people we are supposed to be helping daily.
The following is the story of a woman that knew she was called to save the life of her unborn child.
“I was working at an advertising agency at the age of 19 when I found out I was pregnant. The doctor's nurse called me at work and told me the test was positive. I freaked a bit, more numb than anything. Then I told my best friend at work and said I had to leave. I called my sister-in-law who worked a couple of miles away and she came to get me right away and take me to my brother's apartment. I didn't tell her why right. I called my brother and told him and he came home. He didn't know my doctor because I had gone to a new doctor instead of using our long time family doctor. I called my best friend and told her that I was pregnant. She had been the one who had always convinced me to try anything and everything as a teenager. I got into more trouble with her! When she said to me, "Don't tell anyone else and I will take you to get an abortion!" Something inside me exploded! I got really mad at her! I told her if she ever mentioned that to me again, I would never speak to her. That was a first for me with her! She couldn't believe it! I hung up the phone. The phone rang again and it was my doctor. I had not told the nurse or anyone else where I would be so I was shocked when he found me there. I really liked this doctor and so I was ready to listen to him. He said, "Jean, I just had to talk to you to say, 'Don't do anything rash. Talk to your parents. Everything's going to be fine! Just don't do anything rash." I knew that “rash” was "code" for abortion. He was very concerned I would have an abortion out of desperation. I asked him how he found me since I hadn't told anyone. He said, "I don't know actually. I just came in my office to call you and found a white piece of paper with this number and "Jean" written on it." I knew that it was God who put that paper there. Even though I wasn’t born again yet, I sensed that it was God intervening. No one could have known where I was going to be and I checked with the only two people who knew and they didn't call him.
When I did go tell my parents, my mother cried of course but said, "I will do anything and everything I can to help you." My father just hugged me and said, "If you have a boy will you please name him after me? I regretted not naming your little brother after me!" That was it. No condemnation. Nothing but total love and support and understanding!”
This woman’s little girl grew up to attend bible college and is now in full time ministry changing the lives of people across the country. She is fulfilling the calling and destiny of God in her life.
Our world needs more women like these three. Women that choose to take a stand against murder regardless of the consequences.
We must be a culture that realizes we were put here to make a difference. Whether it’s making a difference in one person’s life or saving millions of babies from being murdered. What we do matters. We were set apart for something great. It’s time we all realized our calling and move forward towards our destiny.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), since 1973, roughly 50 million legal induced abortions have been performed in the United States! Imagine if there were three women willing to make a stand like these women above. I’m not talking about picketing abortion clinics, I’m not talking about murdering abortion doctors, and I’m not talking about hating people into change. I’m talking about really making a difference; about asking the Lord “where should I go and what should I do?” and then following His leading. I’m talking about saving the lives of the next 50 million babies.
Again, this post is not solely intended to be about the rights and wrongs of abortion. It’s about being a people that acknowledge we are placed on this earth for greatness, we are placed on this earth to make a change, to save lives. We need to walk in this understanding and reality that we could be the ones to save these children.
Great post. Perspective and insight is spot on!
