While reading Genesis this morning and spending time with Abram I was struck at the part where Sarai makes Abram sleep with her servant.
When we receive the promises of God a waiting game begins. I do not believe God specifically makes us wait to see if we will hold true to His word. I believe our flesh, our human nature forces us into the waiting game. So here we have Abram who has just been made a promise from God that he will have a son who will inherit Abrams kingdom and that his descendants will number the stars in the sky. Abram decides to give into the pressure from Sarai and sleep with her maid to have the child. This is not Gods promise to Abram or His will for Abrams family. Sarai decided to take the promise God made with Abram into her hands and force the timing. God still fulfilled the promise to Abram through a child born from Sarai, But at what cost? A delayed answer to prayer? Years spent waiting on the true fulfillment of Gods promise because Sarai and Abram decided to rush God? I believe we can rush the promises of God to fulfillment sooner rather than later by our faith. Our faith, trust in, hope for, belief that He will hold true to His word. The faith based rush of Gods promises is a correct response to His word. The physical or fear based rushing of the manifestation of His promises is not correct.
I will consider the promises of God in my life and ask Him, am I rushing the fulfillment of Your word in a fear based way or in a faith based way? I believe I am chasing after His promises based out of fear more than faith. Praise Jesus that He looks upon my willingness to change and blesses my faith. Glory to God!
So good.. really needed to hear this this morning.
